Hi, I’m Jenna.

I’m a medical illustrator at the University of Georgia’s (UGA) College of Veterinary Medicine. I create educational resources ranging from interactive and animated media to 3D visualizations, in support of curriculum, research, and service initiatives.

Background

For as long as I can remember I’ve been fascinated by the life sciences and the intricate cycles of the natural world. As time went on I discovered an aptitude for art and pursued that with a single-minded focus for many years. I went on to receive my BFA in painting from Southwestern University in 2012, after which I entered the commercial print and advertising industry in Austin, Texas, where I spent a good decade working with global brands in a variety of creative roles.

Volunteerism with Texas Master Naturalists eventually brought my interests full circle, inspiring me to pursue scientific illustration as a career. I marked this transition with an Appalachian Trail thru-hike, starting out on foot for Maine from Georgia in 2021—check out my trail journal here! While still nursing a severe case of “hiker hobble” a month or two after trail completion, I moved to Scotland to pursue my MSc in Medical Art from the University of Dundee, where I learned anatomy hands-on in cadaver labs and partnered with community health organizations to expand their public messaging.

An opportunity at UGA brought me right back to Georgia where I now spend my days helping future veterinarians grasp complex topics with engaging visuals [and my evenings hauling about organic matter in my bourgeoning eco-garden]!
